To have a successful marriage, practicing kindness towards your partner is important. This means consistently considering their feelings in both your words and actions towards them.  

Main Point | You can’t have your best us without kindness.

  • This Week’s Sermon was about how you can’t have the best us without practicing kindness towards one another. What were your initial thoughts or takeaways from the message?  

  • Focus Passage Review: Ephesians 4:17-32 (Read this passage 2-3 times then talk through the following points. Try reading different translations as well to see if anything else sticks out)  

    • Observation: What do you notice in this passage?  What words or phrases stick out to you? 

    • Interpretation: What was the author's original intent in this passage?  What main point(s) was the author trying to communicate? 

    • Application: What is a takeaway from this passage?  How can/should you apply that? What next step is Jesus inviting you to take? 

    • Questions: What questions/tensions do you have from this passage? 

  • There are several marital habits that you can work on to have a better marriage, what are a few that come to mind?  

  • Why do you think you can’t have your best us without kindness?  

  • Why do you think we must be the first to practice kindness in a relationship?  

  • Do you think it can be hard to practice kindness in both words and your actions towards your spouse? Why or why not?  

  • In any relationship, there is going to be tension, why do you think it is important to clear the air quickly and not let the tension sit?  

  • When responding in a relationship, one filter is to think: “Is what I’m about ready to say going to benefit them in any way?” Why do you think? 

  • Pastor Matt challenged everyone to do a 7-day kindness challenge. What part of the challenge do you think will be most difficult for you to achieve?  

Application

This week, try to be kind to your spouse or significant other, and if you are single, by following these steps: 

  1. Say nothing negative to them or about them.  

  2. Find one positive thing to praise them for.  

  3. Do a small act of kindness for them.
