Jesus Christ did not invite people to simply believe or accumulate more knowledge about Him, He invited people to actively follow Him. One way to follow him is to apply practical biblical teaching to our lives.   

 Main Point | Our faith grows by following Jesus one next step at a time.

Questions  

The focus Bible passage from the sermon was Matthew 7:24-29. Before going to the Sermon Discussion Questions, study the passage by reading through it together, then talk through it using the Inductive Bible Study Method questions that follow: 

  • Context: Discuss the context of this passage (i.e. when it was written, who wrote it, who it was written to, what was going on before and/or after this specific passage, etc.)

  • Observation: What do you notice in this passage?  What words or phrases stick out to you? And why?

  • Interpretation: What was the author's original intent in this passage?  What main point(s) was the author trying to communicate? Why is it important?

  • Application: What is one key takeaway or insight you had from this passage? How can or should you apply it to your life?

  • Questions: What questions/tensions do you have from this passage that you would like to discuss?

  • This Week’s Sermon was about taking the next steps to follow Jesus by applying practical biblical teaching. What were your initial thoughts or takeaways from the sermon and why?  

  • Pastor Ronnie said on Sunday, “Simply knowing and believing isn’t enough to make any difference, in any area of our lives.  Doing is what makes all the difference.”  Do you believe that to be true?  Why or why not?    

  • Read Matthew 7:24-25 again together. What was Jesus saying, and what was Jesus’s promise in this passage?  

  • Read Matthew 7:26-27 again together. What was Jesus saying, and what was Jesus’s warning in this passage?  

  • According to Jesus, our faith grows by actively following Him (by applying His words to our lives).  What is a next step you feel Jesus may be inviting you to take?   

  • Pastor Ronnie said a catalyst God uses to fuel our faith is Practical Biblical Teaching.  Based on Jesus’ words in Matthew 7, what is Practical Biblical Teaching and why do you think that is a faith catalyst? 

  • Tell about a time you heard a sermon and afterward knew how to practically apply the truths of Scripture to your life.  Did you apply it?  How did that impact your faith?  

  • What do you need to do to ensure you consistently expose yourself to practical Biblical teaching?
