Message Review

God wants to grow our trust in Him, because as trust goes so goes the relationship.  Having unshakable, trust and faith in God is possible, but not by accident.

  • This Week’s Sermon was about how God wants to grow our faith and trust in Him because as trust goes, so goes the relationship. What were your initial thoughts or takeaways from the sermon and why?  

Focus Passage Study
Matthew 8:1-10 Read this passage 2-3 times then talk through the following points:

  • Context: Matthew was written in the late 50s or early 60s A.D. Matthew (also called Levi), the former tax collector who became Jesus’ disciple, is the author. (i.e., what was happening before and/or after this specific passage, etc.)

    • Discuss the context of this passage (i.e. when it was written, who wrote it, who it was written to, what was going on before and/or after this specific passage, etc.)

  • Observation: What do you notice in this passage?  What words or phrases stick out to you? And why?

  • Interpretation: What was the author's original intent in this passage?  What main point(s) was the author trying to communicate? Why is it important?

  • Application: What is one key takeaway or insight you had from this passage? How can or should you apply it to your life?

  • Questions: What questions/tensions do you have from this passage that you would like to discuss?

Discussion Questions:

  • Have you ever met someone who has an unwavering belief in God and looks to Him for direction? Where do you think such a strong faith comes from? 

  • How would your life be different if you had absolute confidence in God in all situations?

  • Trust is a crucial aspect in healthy relationships, whether it's between individuals or with God. Why do you believe trust holds such significance in relationships? 

  • In Matthew 8:5 a Centurion came to Jesus and asked for help. Why was this a big deal in that period?   

  • Read Matthew 8:10 Jesus says he is amazed by the Centurion. Why do believe Jesus was amazed by the Centurion’s faith?  

  • Read John 14:1. What was Jesus saying to the disciples in this passage?  

  • Faith always has an object, but the object of faith isn’t a particular outcome. Why do people get confuse faith with hope and optimism?  

  • Faith takes on a unique form in each stage of life, evolving and growing with us. How has your faith transformed throughout the various seasons of your life? 

  • What would you do if you were confident God was with you?
