Message Review

People who were nothing like Jesus liked Jesus, and He like them too, but do people like his followers? The way many people who would say they’re not followers of Christ perceive those of us who are is making us UNLIKABLE One perception that non followers of Christ have is that Followers of Christ are judgmental. The reason we are perceived as being judgmental is because so often we are being judgmental. To embody the kindness of God, that has the potential to lead people to faith in Jesus, we must walk in the fulness of grace AND truth. This is how we change the perception of being judgmental.

Main Point | Being judgmental kills what only God’s kindness can do.

Scripture References | Matthew 7:1-2; John 1:14, 3:16-18, 8:1-11; Romans 2:4

Questions

  • The definition of judgmental is: An attitude, word, or posture toward someone that makes them feel criticized, put down, excluded, or marginalized. Why are Followers of Christ perceived as this?

  • Pastor Ronnie said: “The reason we are perceived as being judgmental is because so often we are being judgmental” How does this statement make you feel if you are a follower of Christ.

  • A phrase has been accepted that says: “Love the sinner and hate the sin”. Why do we focus on hating the sin more than loving the sinner most times?

  • Read Matthew 7: 1-2. What are the writers of scriptures saying in this passage? How does it apply to our lives?

  • To embody the kindness of God, that has the potential to lead people to faith in Jesus, we must walk in the fulness of grace AND truth. How do we walk in the fullness of Grace and truth in practical ways?

  • Ready John 8: 1-11. How does Jesus show the fullness of Grace and Truth in this passage?

  • Put yourself in the crowds’ shoes, what feelings would you have walked away from after Jesus said, “those without sin throw the first stone”?

  • In what ways can we point people to Jesus who might not understand or care who Jesus is?

Challenge Question | Is it more important for you to judge people’s sins, or to point people to Jesus?

Application

This week pray that the Holy Spirit shows you areas in your life where you have found it more important to judge people than point them to Jesus. Then take one next step in that relationship by investing and interceding for them all while pointing them towards Jesus.

Verse to Remember: John 3:16-18 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
