Discussion Questions

  • What were your initial thoughts or takeaways from the sermon?

  • We, as humans, are not naturally vulnerable. We like to feel that we ‘have it all figured out’ and ‘have already arrived.’  Why do we often feel like this?

  • What might it mean in this season of your life to be “unfinished” in your journey as a follower of Christ—that His work in you is still not yet complete?

  • Read Philippians 1:3-11 as a group.

    • Paul’s prayer of gratitude for the church in Philippi is so passionate and personal. Why do you think that is?

    • In light of verse 6, that “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus,” do you feel you have “arrived” in your walk with Christ?  Or do you feel you have more room to grow?

  • Particularly as it relates to generosity, we often feel we have “arrived” and have already learned all there is to learn about the topic of giving.  Do you feel this is true in your own life?  Why or why not?

  • Read 2 Corinthians 9:6-8. The apostle Paul talks about sowing and reaping and doing so cheerfully and willingly. Into what do you feel you are sowing in your life right now? Your kids? Your job? Share multiple priorities if applicable.

  • Read 2 Corinthians 9:6-8. Paul talks to the early church at Corinth about being cheerful as they give; cheerfulness isn’t about a feeling, it’s about a posture of readiness. He contrasts readiness to reluctance and compulsion.  How would you characterize your posture of giving?

  • Paul also shares that when we sow into the things of God, He provides for us.  Be as honest as you can: Do you listen more to the scarcity messages of the world or the provision messages of God in this particular season of your life?

  • What are specific ways we can pray for you as we enter into this Unfinished season, and you seek God on what He would have you do in regard to your generosity?

  • What specific next steps do you feel God calling you to take as a result of this message and this first scripture study?
