Message Review

We are not self-defined, but God defined. One of the ways that God defines us is as a New Creation. Becoming a New Creation is not that you become a better version of who you already are, but you become who you were created to be. Part of becoming a new creation is we get a new heart, soul, and mind. When we become a new creation through faith in Jesus, we are described as ministers of reconciliation and Christ Ambassadors.

Main Point | As a follower of Jesus you are a new creation, the old is gone and the new has come.

Scripture References | 2 Corinthians 5:16-20; Ezekiel 36:26-27; Romans 8:5-7

Questions

  • Pastor Matt opened his sermon talking about the main purpose of anyone who speaks from the stage at Relevant is to push you to be the person God created you to be. Why can that be uncomfortable at times?

  • In your own words how would you define being a new creation when becoming a follower of Jesus?

  • Read 2 Corinthians 5:16-20. What do these verses say about how and what happens when you become a new creation?

  • Pastor Matt said three things happen when you are made new. The first one he discussed was getting a New Heart. He said this means inside out transformation not outside in moral conformity, what does that mean by this?

  •   It’s a vertical affection for Jesus that starts to make right the horizontal damage that a break in the vertical connection to Jesus causes. Why is it the vertical affection that begins to heal and drive out horizontal brokenness?

  •   Read Romans 8:5-7. What transformation happens in our mind when we become a new creation?

  •   Read Galatians 2:20. What do these verses say about your new identity in Christ as a new creation?

  •   Paul described who we are in two ways, ministers of reconciliation and Christ Ambassadors. How are we supposed to live these new titles out?

Challenge Question | Do you have an affection for Jesus Christ at all?

Application

This spend time focusing on the fact that as a follow of Jesus you are a new creation. Challenge yourself to memorize Galatians 2:20 - I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Then rest in the fact that this identity will never change.

Focus Passage: 2 Corinthians 5:16-20
