Message Review

Do you ever feel like something is trying to prevent what God wants for you? There is. To experience all that God wants for you requires defeating the internal giants that stand in opposition against you. One of those giants is pride. To defeat pride, you must decide it’s not about me, and it’s all about God and His glory.

Main Point: We defeat pride by deciding it’s not about me, and it’s all about God and His glory.

Scripture References: 1 Samuel 16:7, 17:40-47; Proverbs 16:18; James 4:6

Discussion Questions

  • What were your initial thoughts or takeaways from the sermon and why?

  • On Sunday we talked about pride being an internal giant that stands in opposition against all that God wants for us, and Ronnie defined pride as putting “me” at the center of everything.  Why is pride an internal giant we must defeat to experience all that God has for us?

  • Read Proverbs 16:18 & James 4:6b as a group, then answer the following questions.

    • What are the writers of Scripture warning us about pride in these passages?

    • Why do you think pride is so destructive and is such a big deal to God?

    • How do we defeat the internal giant of pride in our lives?

  • Have you ever experienced the destruction of pride in your life?  If so, how?

  • Ronnie said, you defeat pride by deciding it’s not about me, and it’s all about God and His glory.  What does that mean?  What does that practically look like?

  • What David said and did in 1 Samuel 17: 45-47 shows what it practically looks like to humble ourselves before God, and be all about Him and His glory.  Read that passage again as a group. How did David show he had defeated pride and had humbled himself before God?

  • David was able to defeat Goliath because he was blessed with the favor of God.  He was blessed with the favor of God because he humbled himself before God. Why does God give favor to those who humble themselves before Him?

  • When diagnosing pride within you, what are some indicators to look for?

  • In what ways are you making life about yourself? How can you shift and begin to make it all about God and his glory?
