Many people start following Jesus because they believe it will benefit them. While there are many benefits of following Jesus, there’s also some fine print. The fine print of following Jesus is that following Him will eventually cost us something.
Main Point: Salvation is free; it costs us nothing. Following Jesus will eventually cost us something.

Why did Jesus rebuke Peter so harshly in verse 33?
In verse 34, Jesus described the fine print of following Him? What is the fine print? What does that practically look like in our lives?
What big ideas was Jesus trying to communicate in verses 35-38?
Ronnie said the fine print of following Jesus is that salvation is free; it costs us nothing. However, Following Jesus will eventually cost us something. Have you ever been in a situation where following Jesus cost you something—a relationship, an opportunity, comfort, or approval? What happened?
Is it worth following Jesus when it costs us something to? Why or why not?
Reread Mark 8:34. Based on what Jesus said, would you describe yourself as a consumer of Jesus or a follower of Jesus?
How is Jesus inviting you to deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Him? What next step do you need to take to follow Him in that today?
