Message Review

Do you ever feel like something, or someone is trying to prevent what God wants for you? There is. To experience all that God wants for you requires defeating the internal giants that stand in opposition against you. One of those giants is inadequacy. To defeat inadequacy, we must decide to do what only we can do and use what God has given us.

Main Point: We defeat inadequacy by deciding to do what we can do and using what God has given us.

Scripture References: 1 Samuel 17:1-40; Matthew 14:13-21

Discussion Questions

  • What were your initial thoughts or takeaways from the sermon and why?

  • Have you ever felt inadequate before? If so, when, and why?

  • On Sunday we talked about inadequacy being an internal giant that stands in opposition against all that God wants for us. What do you think the internal giant of inadequacy sounds or feels like? Why is this an internal giant we must defeat to experience all that God has for us?

  • Read 1 Samuel 17:8-11, 16, 23 again as a group. Why do you think David might have felt inadequate when he heard and saw Goliath?

  • Read 1 Samuel 17:32-40 again as a group.

    • How did David respond to the giant of inadequacy?

    • Why was David confident he could slay Goliath?

  • As a follower of Christ, Jesus will invite you to take steps of faith to follow him through internal promptings or convictions. How could the giant of inadequacy keep you from taking steps of faith and following Jesus?

  • Ronnie said we defeat inadequacy by deciding to do what only we can do and using what God has given us. What does that mean? Why do you think this is the key decision to defeating inadequacy in your life?

  • What do you feel Jesus may be prompting (stirring, nudging, inviting) you to do, but you feel inadequate for it?

  • What is one way you can say “YES” and do what only you can do by using what God has given you?
