Message Review

We are in a battle daily, so we must daily prepare for battle. To stand firm in this daily battle, we must daily protect our minds by putting on the hope of salvation as our helmet. The helmet of salvation is one of the most important pieces, not to protect our head physically, but to protect our minds. The reason we must protect our mind is because it’s the battle ground for hope. When Satan can affect your mind, he can steal your hope. We protect our minds by focusing our eyes on Jesus because true hope is found in him alone.

Main Point | To stand firm in hope daily we must daily fix our eyes on Jesus.

Scripture References | John 16:33; Romans 8:35-39; Ephesians 6:10-17a; 1 Thessalonians 5:8; Hebrews 12:1-2

Questions

  • What, not so smart, things have you done either as a child or an adult, where you probably should have worn a helmet?

  • Pastor Ronnie shared a story about POW’s during the Korean War. Why do you think using extreme hopelessness as torture was so effective?

  • Why does Satan use hopelessness as such a powerful weapon against us?

  • Read Hebrews 12: 1-2. What words or themes stick out to you and why?

  • Where do you or have you felt hopelessness? Where are your eyes focused in that situation?

  • Why is it vital that you surround yourself with people who are voices of hope in your life? What happens when you let other voices into your life?

  • Pastor Ronnie said. “You’re filling your mind with something every day, what you fill your mind with is what you are fixed on” What are things that you tend to focus your eyes on that aren’t Jesus? What happens when you aren’t filling your mind with Jesus? How do you refocus your eyes when they drift?

  • Read Romans 8:35, 37-39. When we fix our eyes on Jesus, we begin to have unwavering hope and confidence in these verses. What parts of this passage can you hold fast to in the middle of the trials?

Challenge Question | Is what you’re filling your mind with helping you fix your eyes on Jesus, or is it causing you to fix your eyes on something else?

Application

For the next 7 days take two next steps. 1. Start your day with Jesus by spending the first moments of your day in the Word, listening to worship music just focusing on Him. 2. Take an inventory of what you have your eyes focused on and anything that is taking your eyes of Jesus throw it off and replace it with things that will focus your eyes on Jesus.

Verse to Remember:

Hebrews 12: 1-2 - Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
