Message Review
Our body, Relevant Community Church, needs everybody to take extreme ownership of the financial health of our body, in order for us to live as the body of Christ. There’s a lot of things that can prevent us from giving generously, one big reason that will prevent us from living as a member of the body of Christ by giving generously is being a consumer. A consumer is when we treat the church as a commodity or product that can only be consumed. God’s job is to work and move powerfully in ways only He can, AND our job is to give generously, they are not isolated. They are connected AND the latter comes before the former. When we do what only we can do, God has promised to do what only he can do, when we don’t, God hasn’t promised anything. We must take extreme ownership of the financial health of our body by asking God What he would have you do in regard to our generosity and then acting in the way God prompts.
Main Point | God works and moves through our generosity.
Scripture References | 2 Corinthians 9:7; Malachi 3:6-12; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13, 27; 2 Corinthians 9:6-8
Challenge Question | Are you taking extreme ownership of the financial health of our body? If not, what would God have you do in regard to your generosity?
Questions
When you have been looking for a church home, what are some of the things you look for?
Using a “We” focus instead of a “Me” focus read 2 Corinthians 9:6-8. What part of these verses stuck out to you when you read them, why?
God works and moves through our generosity. In Malachi 3:6-12 we see how God can use our generosity to further his kingdom in ways we can’t even imagine. What about you, what are some of the ways you would want to see God create transformation through the generosity of the body of Relevant?
Pastor Ronnie talked about asking God what He would have us do in regards to our giving, and whatever He wants to lead us into, we have to decide in our heart to trust/obey. Why is difficult to trust when it comes to finances?
Being a consumer is a huge roadblock for us and being able to take extreme ownership over our giving. What can we do to change our focus from what the church can do for me, to how we can finally see we are called to be contributors?
Application
This week look at how you can take extreme ownership with your finances. For both consumers and contributors, as followers of Christ ask what He would have you do regarding your finances, and whatever he leads you into, decide in our heart to trust and obey.
Verse to Remember:
2 Corinthians 9:7 - Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
