Message Review
A grapevine is a main vine that sends nutrients from the root of the plant to the branches, which enables the branches to thrive and bear fruit. The gardener prunes branches that do not bear fruit. This week, we look at Jesus claim to being the Vine.
Main Point | We remain in Him by loving Jesus and loving others
Scripture References | John 15:1-11, Galatians 5:22-23
Challenge Question | Are you abiding by loving others the way He first loved you?
Questions
Read John 15:1-4. In general, what is Jesus saying in this passage? Think about who, what, and why?
In John 15:2, Jesus talks about two types of branches. What are the differences in these branches?
Describe a season of life where God has pruned you? What happened? What did you learn from that process? Looking back, what was the overall result for your life?
What is the importance of understanding that God is the one who prunes us?
Read John 15:5-8. What is your responsibility in relationship to the Vine and the Gardener? What does that take in your day to day lives? Does your daily routine exemplify how you answered that question?
Sometimes we attach ourselves to the wrong things that we think bring life. What are some “false vines” you have attached yourself too at one time or maybe even today?
Read John 15:7-8 and Galatians 5:22-23. How are these two passages related? What does the mean for your life?
Next Step Challenge
Consider your life and the words you say, attitudes you adopt, and judgments you make. Are there any not in alignment with God? Those are the areas in need of pruning. This week, take some time to write these areas down, and spend some time praying, giving those areas to God and allow Him to begin doing his work.
