Do you truly know Jesus? When Jesus walked the earth, people followed Him everywhere. But not for who He was, but for what He provided for them physically, especially when it came to food. It’s the same for many today. We don’t want Jesus for who He truly is but for what He can give us. Jesus calls Himself the bread of life, the one who satisfies, sustains, and saves. But not just physically, more importantly, spiritually.
Main Point | It’s impossible to have an authentic relationship with someone from who you’re always trying to get something.
Scripture References | John 6:22-35, John 6:66-69, Isaiah 55:2
Challenge Question | What is it you want from Jesus?
Questions
Last week, we learned that Jesus is the Living Water. This week, we learned that He is the Bread of Life. If someone were to ask you this week to describe Jesus, what would you say at this point?
Let’s think about food for a moment. What does food do for your body? What happens if you don’t eat? Read John 6:22-35. Why were the crowds seeking Jesus? What was Jesus’ answer to them?
Read verses 32-35. What is Jesus saying here? What is the significance of Jesus claiming to be the bread of life? What does this mean for someone spiritually? What does this mean for you personally? What does this mean for you spiritually?
Pastor Matt said that it’s impossible to have an authentic relationship with someone from who you’re always trying to get something. In what ways are you seeking Jesus wrongly?
Think honestly about these questions. In your times of pain, do you look to him for comfort? In your times of joy, do you thank Him? When you must make a big decision, do you seek Him? When you feel convicted, do you turn to Him? Is He a thought in passing? Based upon how you answered those questions, how would you describe your relationship with Jesus?
Next Step Challenge
Pastor Matt gave us two ways to truly grow in our relationship with Jesus. 1) Daily Devotion and 2) Weekly Worship. What is your heart involvement in these things? Where do you need to take next steps? We encourage you to talk about this with others. Do you know someone who has a good rhythm? Reach out and ask them!
