"Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” – Romans 12:21

Main Point

To fight right, overcome evil with good.

Message Recap

What do we do when we’ve done everything we can to resolve a relational conflict with someone else, but the other person simply won’t reconcile? Do we get revenge? Do we play their game? Do we get even? No, we fight differently and overcome evil with good.

Questions for Reflection

Grab a journal and take time working through the questions below.

  1. Unexpected, undeserved love can break down even the most stubborn heart. How have you seen this play out in your life, where someone showed you love when you were being stubborn?

  2. On Sunday, Pastor Jimmy presented an empty chair to represent someone you are in conflict with. Did you have anyone sitting in that chair? What seems to be the center of the conflict between you two?

  3. If you were to give an account to God about the circumstances surrounding a particular conflict with someone, will he say something to you along the lines of “I was pleased with the way you handled the situation?

  4. We can’t overcome evil by responding in with evilness and revenge. We overcome evil by fighting with Good. 1) Praying for a person you are in conflict with, 2) Blessing and not cursing them, and 3) Loving them by serving them and meeting their practical needs. Which is most difficult for you? Why?

  5. In regard to the person sitting in your empty chair, the person you are in conflict with, what next step is God calling you to take? When will you take that step?
