"Forgive one another as quickly and thoroughly as God in Christ forgave you.” – Ephesians 4:32 (MSG)

Main Point

True forgiveness is a decision modeled after God’s forgiveness of us – a decision NOT to hold an offense against the offender – and is the key element to building lasting and loving relationships that can survive anything.

Message Recap

It’s important to remember that a lasting solution will always be a combination of the resolution of the issue and the reconciliation of the relationship. If you only resolve the issue, the solution will never last. The only hope for ongoing peace after a conflict is to seek a reconciled relationship, which comes through the incredible act of forgiveness. Did anyone just pop into your mind right now?

Questions for Reflection

Grab a journal and take time working through the questions below.

  1. Read Ephesians 4:32. What would you say is the primary difference between forgiveness and reconciliation?

  2.  Read Mark 11:25. How can an unwillingness to move toward forgiveness affect your relationship with God? Why would He have you go to “that” person before coming to Him?

  3. Pastor Andy talked about Four Promises of Forgiveness. Which one is most difficult for you and why?

    • I promise I will not dwell on this incident

    • I promise I will not bring up this incident and use it against you

    • I promise I will not talk to others about this incident

    • I promise I will not allow this incident to stand between us or hinder our relationship

  4. Read Mark 11:25 again. Is there someone in your life whom you need to forgive? If so, where are you in that process? What do you need to do to move forward?
