Message Review
What if the reason our prayers don’t seem to work is because we are not praying correctly? What if we are doing it wrong? Can we do it wrong? What if prayer hasn’t worked for you because you don’t understand how prayer is supposed to work? We MUST learn how to pray so we don’t go our whole lives participating in it without experiencing the power of it. Maybe if we’d simply said, “Lord teach us to pray” we would experience prayer in a completely different way.
Main Point | The purpose of prayer is to surrender our will, not to impose it.
Scripture References | Matthew 6:9-10, Luke 11:1, Matthew 6:33, Matthew 26:36
Challenge Question | When you pray, do you more often try and impose your will or surrender to His will?
Questions
Last week Pastor Ronnie gave everyone a challenge for the week; to get away every day and pray. Did you do it? Why or why not?
Read Matthew 6:9-10a. When you start praying, how to you approach God? Do you start the same way every time? Explain.
Read that passage again. How would you define “Your Kingdom” & “Your will?”
Many don’t often think about how we have our own kingdoms and wills. Where in your own life have you continually prayed, but prayed for your own kingdom wishes and your own will to be done?
Read Matthew 6:33. The purpose of prayer is to surrender our will, not impose our will… on God. List out a few things where you have been seeking first your own kingdom rather than God’s. How can you surrender these to God’s will and allow him to work in your life?
Next Step
Last week Pastor Ronnie gave everyone a challenge for the week; to get away every day and pray. The challenge is the same, except this week, declare God’s greatness, and pray that His will be done in your life.
