Message Review
How do you relate to those who are living in sexual immorality? Do you relate to them with more grace or more truth? Some approach with mostly grace, while avoiding truth. Others ensure only truth is spoken, not leaving room for much grace. But which is better to lead with? The reality is, neither is best to put forward more than the other. As Jesus both taught and lived, we must walk in the fullness of both grace and truth.
Main Point | We embody God’s kindness, that leads to people’s repentance, by walking in the fullness of grace AND truth.
Scripture References | John 1:14, John 8:2-11, Romans 2:4
Challenge Question | Is it more important to you for people to know your position, or for them to take next steps toward Jesus?
Questions
As Ronnie said, the most common approach to those living in sexual immorality, is by standing by our “right positions.” What did he mean by “right positions?” What are “right positions?” What has been your most natural approach up to this point? Why?
Read John 8:2-11, the story about the “adulterous woman.” Why do you think the Pharisees dropped their stones and walked away? What does this say about how God views all sin? Do you view it differently than God himself?
Read John 1:14. Jesus embodied the kindness of God that leads to repentance by walking in the fullness of Grace and truth. What is the danger with leading with only grace and no truth? What about the opposite?
Read Romans 2:4. What is God’s kindness? How might this kindness help lead someone to repentance? Can you identify someone you know where you haven’t been leading with kindness, and do you need to change your approach with that person? In what way?
Next Step
Jesus never said that people needed people to clean themselves up before coming to Him. He said to simply come as they are.” Then he would help lead them to repentance and transformation. When it comes to how you relate to others, including those in sexual immorality, is it more important for you for people to know your position, or for them to take a next step toward Jesus? This week, take some time to pray through how you relate to others in this way, and ask God to help you walk in the fullness of grace and truth.
