Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. – Romans 12:14-19

Main Point

To resolve relational conflict, we must learn to Fight Right.

Message Recap

Conflict is all around us. It affects our marriages, families, churches, neighborhoods and workplaces. It’s the air we breathe.  It wears us down, can bring us low and damage our relationships. But it doesn’t have to be this way. There’s a better way within reach of all of us. But we must learn to Fight Right.

Questions for Reflection

Grab a journal and take time working through the questions below.

  1. How do you normally respond when something you really want is denied? (Financially, sexually, relationally etc.) Be honest.

  2. Read James 4:1-2. When in conflict with someone else, it’s easy to point to the other person. But according to this passage, where does conflict come from?

  3. What are some of the things in your life that can become “out of control desires”? Where have these led to conflict? Would you say these desires are a common denominator in your conflicts?

  4. Now think about a relational conflict in your life that you are experiencing right now. What unmet desires within you might be stirring up this conflict?

  5. It’s always more rewarding to resolve the conflict than to dissolve the relationship. Read Romans 12:14-18. Who are you experiencing relational conflict with right now? What can you do to make the first move?

Don’t forget to check out the Bible reading schedule below. When reading ask: 1) What does the passage say? 2) What does it mean? 3) How does it apply to my life?
