Introduction

Most of us are familiar with some stories in the Bible, but many of us are unfamiliar with how we got the Bible in the first place. As the purpose of the Bible is for our transformation, grasping the reason we even have this “Good Book” is key to understanding the stories written in it.

Main Point: Jesus didn’t write the Bible, but Jesus is the reason we have it.

Discussion Questions

  1. What questions do you have about the Bible?

  2. Talk about a story, person, or experience that has influenced the way you look at the Bible.

  3. Read John 20:30-31. What was John’s purpose in writing his document that later became the Gospel of John?

  4. Pastor Ronnie shared on Sunday about the persecution that the early church endured to protect and preserve the documents that would later become the Bible. What does it look like to protect and preserve the Bible in today’s world?

  5. This week, wrestle with the question- what’s the “it” I don’t believe? Ask God to open your mind and heart to help you address the issues you have with the Bible.

Next Steps

This week, spend time reading the Gospel of John. Put yourself in the story and ask God to transform you more as you read. The book is only 21 chapters, so commit to reading 3 chapters a day. If you have time in your group right now, get started by reading the first three chapters.

Key Passage

“Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” –John 20:30-31
