What does it mean that I am a new creation?

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
2 Corinthians 5:17

When a person becomes a new creation, it implies several significant changes:

You Are Spiritually Reborn

Just as a physical birth marks the beginning of a new life, spiritual rebirth signifies a fresh start in one's relationship with God. It involves repentance, turning away from a life of sin, and embracing the forgiveness and grace offered through Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. Through faith in Christ, you became spiritually alive and received the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, who empowers and guides you.

You Have A New Nature

Becoming a new creation means that your old, sinful nature is replaced by a new nature in Christ. At the moment you put your faith in Jesus, you were transformed by the Holy Spirit, and through His work, you will begin to bear the fruit of the Spirit, such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). As you follow Jesus, your old desires, priorities and values will be replaced with new desires, priorities, and values.

You Have A New Identity

As a new creation, your identity is now rooted in Christ. The old labels and identities based on worldly standards no longer define them. Instead, you are seen as a beloved child of God, redeemed and chosen by Him. Your new identity will bring a sense of purpose, security, and belonging the more you grow in your faith in Jesus.

You Have A New Life

Being a new creation implies a change in behavior and lifestyle. Now as a follower of Jesus, you are called to live a life that reflects the character of Christ, walking in obedience to God's Word; His Truths, His Promises, and His Principles, and by following the guidance of the Holy Spirit. While you will not achieve perfection is in this earthly life, as a new creation, you are called to live a life of righteousness and holiness, continually growing and being transformed by God.

This is an Ongoing Process

It is essential to note that the process of becoming a new creation is ongoing, as you continue to grow in your faith and be transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2). It is a journey of daily surrender, dependence on God's grace, and active participation in the work of the Holy Spirit in your life.
