God does want us here!

Monday, January 19th, 2009

God showed up in a big way this past weekend.  Our house in Birmingham, AL has been on the market for over six months, and we finally got our first offer this weekend.  For six months we have prayed persistently about this, and God answered!  Here is the really cool thing.  This offer came one week after Kristy and I made the decision not to try and “short sell” the house.  Our realtor advised us to try and short sell with the market being cruddy, but we didn’t have a peace about it.  We made the decision to stay patient and wait on God to move, and He did.  Not only that, the amount that we settled on with the buyers is only $1500 less that what we felt we wanted to sell the house for.

God doesn’t always answer prayers the way we want, when we want - but God always answers prayers according to His will.

A “must read”

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

One of my mentors recently challenged me to read the book “Crazy Love” by Francis Chan.  I am not much of a touchy-feely type of guy, so i was not to excited about picking this up, and only did because I really value my mentor’s recommendations; however, once I started reading “Crazy Love” I could not put it down.  It challenged me in so many ways.

I am an extremely disciplined person when it comes to my spiritual life.  I get up at 4am every day to spend time in prayer and reading my bible.  I do it because mostly beucase I know I should, and it is good for me.  What I was challenged with as I read this book is that I am not crazy in love with God.  I am not so in love with Him that I can’t wait to spend time with him, not sin, love someone who is unlovable…this list could go on.  I do those things because I am disciplined.  Not that being disciplined is bad, but I read this book desiring to fall more in love with God.

So…that has been my prayer since.  Everyday I have been praying that I fall more in love with God, instead of just doing the “right” things because I should.  I encourage you to pick up the book yourself.  I believe that it will challenge your spiritual life in amazing way.
