How Do I Know? | Week 1: Consult The Right People | May 6 - 12
Introduction
Where should I go next? Should I take this job? When will I meet the right person? What am I supposed to do in this situation? When we're faced with questions like this, it sure would be great if we knew what God wanted us to do. If anyone knows the right path to take, it'd be Him, right? The reality is that God wants us to know His will for us even more than we do! In our "How Do I Know?" series, we'll discover 3 filters we can use to discover God's will for our lives, and, in turn, make wise decisions.
Main Point
God has a specific will for your life, and he wants you to know it more than you do, and he reveals his will through people.
Discussion Questions
  1. Think back to one of the worst decisions you've ever made and share it with your group. Did you make that decision on your own or with help? What was the outcome and what would you have done differently?
  2. Jeremiah 29:11 says "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Have you ever considered that God really does have a will for your life, even in the smallest decisions? If so, what has been your journey to discovering His will instead of your own?
  3. Open your Bibles and turn to Proverbs 12:26 and read aloud. What does this have to do with knowing God's will for you? And how would you say this is currently affecting your today?
  4. Proverbs 13:20 says to "walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm. Consider your friends, and those you have surrounded yourself with. What are if any changes you need to make to your circle?
  5. During the sermon Jimmy said that the "problem with hearing God's will is not his willingness to communicate it, but your willingness to participate." When thinking about this statement, what might be holding you back from fully walking into God's will for your life or a particular situation? (Is it trust, disobedience, no desire, etc)
Next Step Challenge
God has a specific will for your life, and He wants you to know it even more than you do. So much so that he has and will continue to reveal it and confirm it through people. But only the right people. As you go about this week, think about your circle of friends. Are they the right people? If you want to know and do God's will, it starts with your commitment to participate, by surrounding yourself with the right people, asking them for help, and then making a proactive decision to listen. A good question to continually ask in all situations is, "have I filtered this decision through the right people?"
