T-Life Guide
Follow Me | Week 2: Next Steps | January 21 - 27
Main Point: Following Jesus begins and continues one next-step at a time.
Challenge Question: What's your next step?
Key Verse: Luke 5:11
Scripture References: Matthew 4:18-22 Luke 5:1-11
From Last Week ...
No matter what condition your life is in, Jesus invites you to follow Him. Many people believe that following Jesus is about behaving the right ways and checking off the religious "To Do" list. However, following Jesus is about having a relationship with Him and allowing Him to change you right where you are.
Religion says, "Change, and then join us." Jesus says, "Join us, and you will change." Jesus doesn't demand perfection from us. He just wants us to follow Him as we are. Being a sinner or an unbeliever doesn't disqualify you from following Jesus. In fact, following almost always begins with a sinner and unbeliever taking one small step.
Discussion Questions
  1. Share a goal that you want to accomplish for this year. When you first set that goal for yourself, did it feel unachievable? Explain your plan of action to pursue that goal.
  2. What risks do you associate with following Jesus? How do those risks cause you to hesitate?
  3. Let's read together Matthew 4:19. What do you think Jesus meant by fishing for people?
  4. Pastor Ronnie said on Sunday, "Jesus is inviting you to do something you've done 1,000 times, differently than you've done it before AND in the way He is asking you to." In what area do you feel Him nudging you to take a next step? (Think about your relationships, job, finances, etc.) What do you think will happen if you choose to follow Jesus in this way?
  5. Think about the four stages of following Jesus- sit and listen; loan him the boat; take him fishing; and leave your nets. Which stage best describes where you are right now and where you want to be? How can this group help you with your next step?
Next Step Challenge
The question isn't where are you on some continuum of spiritual maturity. The question is, Are you following Jesus? That doesn't mean radical change all at once. It means taking a next step. Whatever your next step istake it! Whatever your point of challenge right now, that's where God wants to work in your life.
Memory Verse
So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him. Luke 5:11
