How to Be Rich: Living at 212° | Week 1: Admit It, You're Rich | October 29 - November 04
Main Point: If you have more than you need, congratulations ... you're rich.
Challenge Question: Do you know how to be rich?
Key Verse: 1 Timothy 6:17
Scripture References: 1 Timothy 6:17 Ephesians 3:20-21
From Last Week ...
Last week we discussed how particular circumstances cause us to lean into or away from God. Since our last meeting, what steps did you take to lean into God through a current circumstance? If you found yourself leaning away from God, how did that impact your week?
Admitting you are rich is not comfortable. It's easy to consider someone who has more financial means to be richer than you. But if God has blessed you with more than you need, then you are rich. Instead of wondering IF you are or how to GET rich, admit that you are and learn how God wants you to BE rich. It's important that you do this so you can live generously and experience the transformation that God wants to do in and through you. As we approach the halfway point of 212, let's continue to allow God to transform our lives in the area of generosity.
Discussion Questions
  1. How have you seen God's transformation working in your own life or someone else's life in the area of generosity?
  2. If you are rich because God has blessed you with more than you need, why is it so difficult to admit that? Or if you have already admitted that you are rich, how has your perspective on generosity changed?
  3. Open your Bibles to Ephesians 3:20-21 and read aloud. Share some stories about how you trusted God and how He did "immeasurably more" than you originally imagined.
  4. During the sermon, Pastor Ronnie reminded us that "Generosity generates transformation." We've heard this phrase many times over the past year. Reflect on your attitude and reaction to this statement and share how you feel God transforming you in the area of generosity.
  5. Think about the resources that God has blessed you with. Share these with one or two other people. Also share about one specific way you can be generous and use your resources to meet a need this week.
Next Step Challenge
In the sermon, Pastor Ronnie talked about 3 types of people at Relevant. Those who are newer to Relevant and have not engaged in the 212 Initiative, you are challenged to go before God over the next four weeks and ask Him what he would have you do in regards to making a 212 commitment for the next 12 months. For those who have made a 212 commitment, you are challenged to go before God and ask him to help you finish strong in what he led you to committing one year ago. And for those who have had an increase in faith or finances over the past year, you are challenged to go before God and ask Him if he is stretching you to take an even bigger step of faith in regards to your generosity. As you go about this week, every single day say, "God has blessed me with more than I need ... I'm rich!"
Memory Verse
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 1 Timothy 6:17
