July Safe Haven Update
July 8, 2017 by Kelly Samson

At Relevant, we are committed to living out what God calls us, as followers of Christ to, in James 1:27 “to look after orphans and widows in their distress”. This is why we prayerfully and financially support Safe Haven Orphanage on the Thai/Burma border. You’ll see in this month’s update below some of the ways Relevant’s sacrificial generosity and prayers are impacting the lives of children and staff at Safe Haven!

A Note from Tasanee

Dear all Relevant friends,

Wishing you have a good day, good health, and happiness. I would love to say a special thanks to you for always supporting the children at Safe Haven Orphanage and allowing the children to have a good education, good health, and to be safe and happy.  Thank you very much to praying for me and the children all the time and for my mother when she was sick recently.

I have been very busy lately. My mother was in the hospital for one month and after she left the hospital, she could not walk on her own because she had been in the hospital bed for such a long time, so I spent extra time helping her. Then, I had a meeting and training for a week. Now, it is raining every day. We have heard of other places where there has been malaria and dengue fever. Nikom and I have been working in the river, and we got sand to prevent more water from getting on the road at the orphanage. We are working hard to keep the children safe and prevent them from getting sick.

This year, 9 more kids have come to the orphanage. One girl (pictured below), who has no parents, had been staying with her brother. Her brother was drinking a lot and not taking care of, providing for, and protecting her. We were worried about her safety, so she came to stay Safe Haven. Because of your financial generosity, we are able to take care of her and the other children who come to Safe Haven.

I am writing to express our deepest thanks for your recent financial gifts sent to Safe Haven Orphanage. Your generous gifts provide the financial and moral support needed to continue our mission. Your faithful financial contributions have helped us for many years, and you’ve demonstrated your deep commitment to Safe Haven Orphanage.

Kind Regards,

Rainy Season

It’s rainy season in Thailand, and as Tasanee mentioned in her note, there was water on the road at the orphanage. The increased risk of mosquito-borne illnesses like malaria and dengue fever makes standing water an issue of concern. A Thai military unit brought sand bags to the orphanage and helped Tasanee and Nikom cover standing water with sand. They’ve also been working in the river. See pictures below.

Sunday in the hospital

Sunday, a two-year old at Safe Haven, has been having complications related to asthma in the past month. A few days ago, he was diagnosed with pneumonia. Currently, he is at the hospital in Mae Sot (about 2 hours from the orphanage) receiving daily breathing treatments.

Prayer Requests

– Pray for Sunday. Pray for God’s healing in little Sunday’s body, as he is treated in the Mae Sot hospital for pneumonia. Pray that Sunday will be able to breathe fully and without difficulty very soon and that he’ll be able to return home to the orphanage to be with all of the children and staff who love him so dearly.

Pray for Tasanee, the children, and staff and Safe Haven and all those in Thailand and Burma during this rainy season. Pray for God’s protection over them, their health, and safety. Pray against flooding and illnesses that are common in these wet and humid months, such as malaria and dengue fever.

Praise God for the impact Safe Haven Orphanage is having. Praise Him for Tasanee and her dedicated staff who continue to provide a literal “safe haven”, where orphaned children are provided and care for, protected, and taught about Jesus every day. Pray that God continues to provide for Safe Haven, sustain Tasanee and her staff, and that each child at Safe Haven will come to put their faith in Jesus by asking Him to be the Forgiver of their sins and Leader of their life.

Pray for the preparations and planning of the upcoming October Safe Haven trip. In October, Relevant will be sending a team of 6 to Safe Haven. We’re excited that while in Thailand, this team will have the opportunity to work with a company in Mae Sot to help install solar panels at the orphanage. This will increase the safety at the orphanage and provide for much-needed electricity needs in an area where power outages are frequent and sometimes long-lasting. Pray for wisdom and direction throughout the trip planning process.

Jude 24-25To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy—to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.”
